AHN Edged Out

The Holy Names ladies fought hard, but were edged out by a surprisingly strong Albany Academy squad 126-104 in the Colonial Council Championships yesterday.

With "all hands on deck" for the meet, there were a number of outstanding performances from young AHN runners who will certainly battle to regain the crown next season. Ninth grader Hannah Loder took 3rd in the 400m with a strong 1:00. Loder and classmate Brianna Wagner also ran outstanding legs in the 4 x 400 relay to help take first in the event.

Eighth grader Meredith Franchini gutted out her first ever steeplechase and took 2nd place with a time of 8:03. Classmate Maddy Vogel PR'd in the 800 for the second time this week, taking 5th with an impressive 2:25.

Upper classmen Kaitlin Close (100, 200,400), Mai-Lin Le (shot put), Leah Triller (800,1500), Alison Insero (HJ, LJ, TJ), Julia Smith (400h),and Kaylee Scott (steeple, 3000) also scored points in individual events for AHN. Full results from Council Champs at Section 2 Harrier.

The team looks to continue improving through upcoming action in Sectionals, State Qualifiers, and State Championships.

Fast Times at Johnstown

The weather finally started feeling like spring on Saturday, and AHN runners took the opportunity to put down some excellent times at beautiful Knox Field at the annual Johnstown Invitational.

Senior Leah Triller went all out in the 800m, running away from the field and scoring a NY#2 2:12:35 with classmate Kerry Losert taking 4th (2:24:35) and 8th grader Maddy Vogel going sub-2:30 to take a solid 7th.

Kaitlin Close (59:39) took second in the 400m, with 9th graders Hannah Loder (1:00:22, 3rd) and Brianna Wagner (1:06:57) logging personal bests. Mai-Lin Le took second in the shot put (31' 8") and eighth grader Meredith Franchini legged out a strong 5:08 to win her heat of the 1500m, placing 8th overall.

Two Short to Win

The AHN ladies fought hard but came up short in two key relays at the Colonie Relays on Saturday. In the 4 x 800 the squad of  Kerry Losert, Kaitlin Close, Kaylee Scott and Leah Triller took second behind BHBL with a time of 9:28:19. In the SMR the team of Close, Hannah Loder, Losert and Triller fell to winner Shenendahoa with a time of 4:12:10.

The shot put relay trio also placed an impressive third behind large schools Shaker and Shen.
